I was recently introduced to these clever little keepsake journals called “Between You and Me.” The purpose of these journals is to purchase one for your family members according to their relationship to you…Mom, Dad, Grandmother, Brother, Husband, Wife, Aunt. There are 15 possible choices, including 2 in Spanish. When you give the family member their journal, the rest is up to them. Each journal contains questions specific to the relationship between the gift giver and receiver. For instance, in the “Grandmother” book the questions can be, “What are your memories of the day you and Granddad were married?” or from the “Mom book, “What are your memories of your mother?” Each book has carefully thought out questions that most of us don’t think to ask our parents and grandparents until sometimes, it is too late. I know my grandmother has some fabulous stories that she experienced and the stories that she tells about her grandmother hiding from Indians and settling in Indian Territory before it was Oklahoma! I would love to have those in writing!
These books allow for a great legacy to be left that in today’s day, we often forget to ask or get so wrapped up in our cyber worlds, we don’t think to ask. Even for a married couple, sometimes the questions are easier to answer on paper. And they certainly leave a legacy for our children and grandchildren to appreciate some day. These are great books for every day, for birthdays, anniversaries, reunions. And it is highly likely, your family members haven’t received one yet! A great original gift.
I might be dreaming, but I think, especially parents and grandparents would absolutely love to answer the questions in this book…a great conversation starter!
