Sharks

Monday, March 8, 2010 | Kids, Love of Paper, Pitstop

Recently, my nephew had a shark party…thus the cute shark cupcakes I posted last week.  My mind has been shark-focused of late and I have found some of the cutest shark things to share with you.  I loved my sister’s idea of a shark-themed party and of all things, there are some really cute shark ideas out there!

The Remote Controlled Shark…for the swimming pool!  May I never step foot in a dark-bottomed pool again…

Combining my niece’s love of anatomy and nephew’s love of sharks…a really cool look at shark anatomy…

And this cute cute shark hat/puppet….

(I bought this for my nephew to wear to his party, which he ended up wearing for his school report on sharks :)

How about the look of this cool kite flying in the sky?

And if you have never seen this amazing pop-up book, you are really missing out.  It takes Pop-Up books to a whole new level!!!

Now you have a few good shark ideas for the shark-lover in your life.  Hope you enjoy!

Hello, Cupcake!

Tuesday, March 2, 2010 | Love of Paper, Pitstop

My mom gave my sister and I both these darling books a year or so ago at the beginning of the cupcake rage….“Hello, Cupcake!”  How much do I love that cupcakes are en vogue?  Yum!  At first glance, I was a little panicked about making such beautiful cupcakes/works of art.  It looked to me like only a professional could accomplish them and get close to resembling them.  Then, my sister had a shark party for her 8 year-old son.  Nothing against her, but she and I are on the same level with icing…the lowest level.  I can make cakes with molds and dab a million stars on top, but create a masterpiece freehand?  I don’t think so.  I was quite impressed with her shark cupcakes that she made from Hello Cupcake…dipped Twinkies and powdered donuts!  So cute!

Now, the authors of Hello Cupcake have a newer edition, “What’s New Cupcake?”  Each book has perfect directions that are easy to follow and some of the most amazing ideas for birthdays, Easter, Valentine’s Day…great for yourself and a great gift for a friend.  If nothing else, to keep on the cookbook shelf and marvel at their creations!  Click the links or the pictures and get yourself a cupcake book now!

Blue Yonder Design

Thursday, February 25, 2010 | Internet Savvy, Pitstop

It is about time I share the secret weapon to my blog….Jen, at Blue Yonder Design.  I absolutely love her and her work and am so grateful I literally stumbled across a blog I thought was cute a few years ago and took the time to find out who designed it.  Not only does Jen know what she is doing and have great ideas, she is so willing to hear my opinions (albethem rambling at times) and bring together a perfect result.  I can contact her for anything I need to add to my site, a button, a badge, or if I just feel like changing things up, and she is on it.  What I love the most is that she is willing to teach me (the computer illiterate) as we go.  I so desire to know more and be able to help myself when I have issues and Jen has patiently taught me how to do things I wanted to do and balanced that so well with when I am waving the white flag of surrender, practically shouting, “PLEASE HELP!!”

Jen can doing anything.  Big blogs, little blogs, red blogs, blue blogs…kidding.  Can you tell I have little Dr Seuss lovers?  I love what she has done for Penelope’s Pitstop and I want her to get all the credit and kudos she deserves.  This is my review of her on her site…

It is amazing to me that every time Jen touches my blog she makes it bigger and better. I recently wanted to expand Penelope’s Pitstop, which Jen originally designed, to accommodate Product Reviews and Giveaways and allow it to have a more professional look. Jen moved me over to Wordpress and it turned Penelope’s Pitstop upside down. I absolutely love what she has done to my site. I receive comments on a daily basis from perfect strangers telling me just how cute my site is. Once again, she turned my rambling thoughts into everything I wanted and more. As I have worked with Jen over the past couple years, I have grown to love her work AND her. I love that she allows me to “mess” with and sometimes mess up my site. Slowly but surely I am learning to manage my site via Wordpress, but she is always there to patiently back me up and give me the support I need to make my blog a success. Penelope’s Pitstop has been successful in a large part due to the image it portrays…the look that Jen has given it has made Penelope’s Pitstop what it is today. Thank you so so much, Jen!”

She is awesome.  Should you have any web design needs, I would HIGHLY recommend Jen at Blue Yonder Design.  Just go check out her gallery…she has a wide variety of styles and ideas.  Coupled with your ideas, you are guaranteed to have an amazing design when she is finished with you!

Find Me Books

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 | Kids, Love of Paper, Pitstop

Today’s post comes from Alli…

My friend, Kinzie, created the cutest personalized book! It’s called “Find Me.” Think “I Spy” but you’re hunting for your own pictures. I ordered one for my daughter’s 3rd birthday, but it turns out that my 8 and 11 year olds love it too! It was very easy to create…just go to her website, and follow the directions! You upload 6 pictures and choose 11 backgrounds. Your pictures are hidden in the scenes you choose! And, of course, you have a chance to review the scenes with your pictures in them before you order. This was great for me because I had originally chosen some scenes that might have proven to be too challenging for my 3 year old (the big kids would have loved them though). My favorite scene is the one with dollar bills all over it because it made my husband have funny Andrew Jackson hair. The book itself is a very high quality hardback with beautiful, colorful pages (and, really, how fun is it to have your picture on the cover of a book!). My daughter absolutely adores it and shouts “hooway!”   she finds a picture. I have to agree! Hooway for the Find Me Book!

These are so cool!  Thanks, Alli, for sharing.  What an incredibly fun gift to give to your children!  It doesn’t get better than finding pictures of yourself!

Leg Huggers

Kids, Pitstop

I have been seeing these cute Leg Huggers more and more on-line and in catalogs.  At first glance, I thought they were pretty cute.  However, once I read the package I realized the world of possibilities surrounding Leg Huggers.  Let me quote the package so I don’t miss a thing: “They are great for keeping legs cozy in cold weather…for toilet training…for crawling on hard surfaces…for those with sensitive skin.”   The crawling part is huge for me.  Gratefully, my first two boys were crawling during pants season.  My newest little toot will be crawling in the heat of the summer…his little knees need some protection.  The toilet training part cracks me up to see little guys/girls walking around with their hiney showing, but leggings up to their thighs.  It’s a great solution, though!

As far as the quality of the product, let’s quote the package again, “Breathable, wicks away moisture (oh, how my Dad loves that “wicking” quality), UV protective, Odor resistant, antibacterial, soft and comfrtable, no chemicals or pesticides”, and drumroll…………they are made out of bamboo.  How can you go wrong here?  They are so soft and so cute.  And don’t think these are just for the little girls in your life.  They make “manly” colors, too!  I can’t think of a better and more stylish and functional addition to the baby fashion world!  A fantastic, inexpensive and unique baby gift!  Click on the pictures to buy a pair, shop my Amazon Store, or you might check out the give-aways today!

Zazzle Custom Binders

Monday, February 15, 2010 | Home, Love of Paper, Pitstop

Oh my goodness.  I might be living under a rock, but I just stumbled upon these cool custom binders at Zazzle.  I use binders.  I love binders and I love to be organized.  Last night I was simply trying to print a cover page for my Recipes Binder and saw a link to these babies….cute binders!

For the record, I am currently reclaiming organization in my life.  In my life before kids, I was an organizing maniac.  Then, I got married and two people were using my clean space…then, three, four and now five people! And the space just “ain’t” clean like I like it.    HOW do you stay organized with five rug rats (and a big dog) in one space?  ahhh!  I am currently organizing all the pages I have ripped from magazines.  I got tired of storing loads of magazines that I never went through again, so I decided to rip what I like and recycle the rest.  HUGE difference in space.  I tear recipes, decorating ideas, kid projects.  And now, I have an “Idea Book.”  I also have two huge binders for my recipes.  I dropped and broke one too many recipe boxes, so I moved all my cards into photo pages in a binder and merged them with my recipes I print from the computer, find in magazines, etc and put in sheet protectors.  Binders work!

Of course, I also like “cute.”  So when I found these custom binders I was in Heaven!  There are loads of pre-designed binders that you can insert your own text in OR you can start from scratch and make your very own.  I can’t wait to get started.  Just by perusing their ideas, I came up with lots of reasons to make new binders.  A recipe binder is the best idea.  This way you can add and remove on a whim.  What a great gift…wedding, birthday, housewarming!  There are many many cute recipe binders to choose from…

Binders with your own photos inserted…

There is this cute “Wedding Binder”…a place to keep all those wedding plans organized.

If you have any sort of business, a binder is a great idea to keep your portfolio…like this cute Cake Binder…

Or if you have a need for a Baby book…for pictures, guest lists, keepsakes…

I get so excited at all the endless ideas to get yourself organized…a binder to keep track of finances, a journal, a business, cute teen gift to personalize a school binder, a special binder for a big project, photos, recipes, meal plans…tell me your ideas!  I love it!  Let’s get organized!  Click the link below and search for “Custom Binders.”  Voila!

Don’t forget, Penelope will donate 20% of all proceeds to a local charity if you shop/link through Penelope’s Pitstop…

Pineapple Corer

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 | Palate, Pitstop

Wynne’s Day…

For Christmas a few years ago, our mom gave Penelope and I these really cool pineapple corers.  This nifty little contraption will cut the yummy portion of your pineapple and take the center core out… all with a twist of the wrist!  The coolest part is that it also preserves the “shell” of the pineapple perfectly so you can use it as a center piece…fill with fruit or a giant drink and little umbrella and voila! Perfectly cut pineapple and center piece all at once!

Thanks, Wynne.  This pineapple corer might be one of the most clever inventions yet!  We love pineapples in our house and I no longer dread cutting it up…This baby works and the results are a stack of perfectly cut rings of pineapples.  I feel like a professional chef!  If I can do it, anybody can…you should definitely buy this inexpensive contraption.  You will be amazed!

The Purpose

My Fed Ex and UPS delivery men have each told me to "Keep it up!" and "We love you!" I love to shop on the internet. It saves time and needless hours of pain forcing my children to "sit tight" while I shop. I love to share great things I find with my family and friends, so that's what I am here to do...
