This Little Prayer of Mine

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 | Product Reviews

Anthony DeStefano contacted me about reviewing his new book, This Little Prayer of Mine.  I was thrilled to receive it and even more so to read it.  The book is a precious rhyme with touching illustrations throughout.  As soon as I received it, I read it to my two older boys, ages 6 and 3.  They loved it.  And they loved it again.  And again.  This book really struck a chord with them, as they begged to read it over and over.  It not only has a nice flow, it has great meaning.  I find myself telling my children the same things the book portrays on a daily basis…just not with such eloquence!

This Little Prayer of Mine teaches children that little prayers are OK, too!  And that God hears their prayers, even when we are scared.  Anthony did a wonderful job of speaking to a child’s heart.  And that does a parent’s heart good!  This is a perfect gift for any little one in your life…put it in their Easter Basket, a baby gift, or even just a surprise to have a new book!  If my boys love it as much as they do, I am certain the kiddos in your life will, too!  The book releases on February 16th.  However, if you click the links, you can reserve your copy to be shipped as soon as it drops.  Be the first!

Skin MD Natural

Friday, January 29, 2010 | Product Reviews

The nice people at Skin MD Naturalcontacted me in the Fall to try their new Shielding Lotion.  I consider myself to be a connoisseur of lotion.  I can’t stand to have dry hands and not all lotions are the same, as my husband might believe.  Skin MD Natural boasts of a new concept in the lotion world that I definitely am attracted to. Ever since I heard of Arbonne I always look at lotion ingredients to make sure there are no fillers like mineral oil.  Fillers that just take up space without creating any benefit to the product.  Skin MD Natural is made of ingredients that “Enhance your skin’s hydrating and protective abilities.”  The shielding lotion actually creates a barrier on your skin to keep harmful elements out of your pores and protect the moisture in your body.  Not only does it restore the moisture in your skin, but it protects your skin from loss of moisture.

Do any of us really know or care about the science behind the lotion we use on our bodies?  Not me.  All I care about is if it really works.  The science sounded good, but did it work?

Since they sent me a sample, I have kept it in my car…my usual lotion application location.  Weird, I know.  I love it.  They claim it takes a few days to build up the proper barrier with repeated use.  Not only did I love the mild and unoffensive smell, I loved the feel.  Even my five-year-old son loved to put it on.  The true test was the fact that having a newborn in the house and changing multiple diapers a day, my hands were washed and scrubbed often and always with a squirt of anti-bacterial lotion, as well.  Skin MD Natural really helped to keep my hands supple and avoid the added dryness caused by the colder season and extra washings.

I was very pleased with Skin MD Natural and will certainly complete what little bit is left in my sample bottle.  Check them out.  I think you will really like it!

My Storytime Friends is a great gift for the little kids in your life.  When you buy a Storytime Friend, you buy a box with a storybook and a stuffed Gary Beary.  Each box comes with a special ID to register on-line.  Once you register on-line, you have access to various pages like The Library, The Store, The Post Office and The Newsstand.

When you visit The Library, you can find online books, books to download and print, and audio books to download to your own portable device.  Your child can also access the Book of the Month club for reading on-line and/or have a hardcover book mailed to you for the cost of shipping & handling.

A visit to The Store allows you the opportunity to dress your animal friend in various accessories, including t-shirts and pants, with or without custom embroidery!

The Post Office allows you to see up-to-date status of your book that will be mailed to you and allow you to send letters directly to My Storytime Friends.

The Newstand is exactly that.  The place to go for the latest in news and special offers.

Gary Beary is a very cute and cuddly little bear that will tug at the heartstrings of your child.  The storybook we received with our box from Storytime Friends was a very cute story with good value training and moral lessons.  The on-line availability of the store and library keep the fun alive with the kids as they keep their animal in fashion and keep up with a new book every month.  Storytime Friends offers a fun new way to make reading fun and it offers a safe place for kids to go on the Internet to play and learn.

Orient Expressed

Monday, November 30, 2009 | Product Reviews

I have always been an admirer of the Orient Expressed children’s clothes.  It happens quite often that I see a cute sweater or outfit and I look for the tag to find that it is Orient Expressed.  When they contacted me to review their clothing, I jumped at the opportunity.  Orient Expressed is a New Orleans-based children’s boutique that began in the early 1980’s.  Their children’s clothes range from beautiful smocked dresses for the girls and shortalls for the boys to darling sweaters and T-shirts for both boys and girls.  The owners have nurtured the brand for many years with great quality and variety.  These are a few of my favorites…

Cute Christmas sweater for the boys…

Smocked Santas for the girls…

And if I didn’t have 3 boys…

Orient Expressed clothes are precious, no matter what your choice of styles for your kiddos.  Not only can you buy from them on-line or find them in a store, but they have home shows, as well.  Go check them out for very cute holiday and non-holiday choices for your perfect angels!

Sucre

Monday, November 16, 2009 | Product Reviews

sucreOh. My. Word. A little piece, or should I say pieces, of Heaven showed up on my doorstep last week. A charming little chocolate boutique in New Orleans called “Sucre” contacted me to taste-test their chocolates. Who says, “No” to chocolate?  Not me!  To say it was a “treat” would be an understatement. When I put that first piece of heaven in my mouth, my first thought was to hide the rest from my family so I could hide in the pantry at midnight and eat it all by myself. It was my second thought, too.  However, when my husband came home, I couldn’t lie and showed him.  I showed him the box.  (Big mistake.)

I first took a bite of the “Pistachio and Rose Petal” chocolate bar and it melted in my mouth. Not only was it a beautiful piece of chocolate with pistachio’s and rose petals on the surface of the chocoindiv_cbars2late, but it tasted amazing. Then, I opened “The” box. “The” box was titled “Sugar and Spice.” I would have given it a name with “sinful” in the title. Since white chocolate is my favorite, let’s start with the…

Candy Cane White Chocolate Truffle…and I quote from the site, “Velvety white chocolate ganache infused with bits of peppermint candies in a pure white chocolate shell.”  Need I say more?  Then…

Gingerbread Milk Chocolate Truffle…Oh my!

And the Eggnog Dark Chocolate Truffle.  The minute that truffle passed my lips, I completely forgot that I didn’t like dark chocolate.  Eggnog?  What an unbelievably mouth-waterinchocs_sugarspiceg combination.

I couldn’t get enough of these little pops of total indulgence.  In those few moments that I savored the chocolate rush in my mouth, I completely forgot that my boys were yelling for me upstairs and the baby was crying for his bottle.  Life altering, I tell you.  (Husbands, take note!  The perfect gift for your wife, “Just Because.”  You will win big points!)

Sucre has many other choices of all kinds of chocolates for the chocolate-lover in you.  The best part is that you can order on-line and taste what I tasted without ever leaving your home.  Stocking stuffers, Valentine’s Day, birthday, and best of all, “Just Because.”  You have got to get your hands on these divinely inspired little lovelies.  Whatever the occasion, you can’t miss out!

Sucre has offered a special discount for Penelope’s Pitstop readers.  When you place an order over $70, you will receive $10 off.  Coupon code: SUCRE.  A portion of every dollar spent goes to the Louisiana SPCA.
